There is nothing for rely on.

 


Some of our proverbs include "a monk can't shave his own hair" and "There should be a rock for cattle to scratch the back."

The general meaning of this phrase is "Everyone needs something to rely on to achieve it."

However, this is not acceptable on Zen.

The reason why the monk can't shave his own hair is because he doesn't have hair, and the cow doesn't have the back to scratch.
